2023 Presidents Report
Firstly, I’d like to congratulate and thank this year’s committee. You have all done a marvellous job and should be very proud. We have endeavoured to make our show day a date that is marked on everyone’s calendar across our community. And I think the shift from an autumn show to Spring has well and truly been accepted. The Corryong show is certainly a day eagerly anticipated by all.
This year’s show was again highlighted by another impressive Fireworks display.
Tim Coleman wowed the crowd with his impressive motorbike skills and the crowd were certainly impressed. The free inflatables were busy all day as were the free pony rides. The black snake wildlife display was excellent in providing animals/reptiles that we don’t get to see all that often. The sideshow entourage again filled their pockets and were happy with what our show provided.
Like all years the animal nursery was brilliant, and this year’s might have been the best one yet. We thank the Low family for their ongoing commitment to this, and Cols dog jump was another crowd pleaser.
A large variety of market stalls gave plenty to look at and we thank them for their time. The inclusion of some different food vans created a diverse range of food, food that we don’t get to eat all that often. And we thank the ongoing support from the Lions and Rotary clubs.
The school band provided light music in the background and Adam Crossman played tunes into the night. The motorbike barrel race by local riders certainly got the crowd cheering but the talent of Tim Coleman got the win. We were also thankful for the organisers of the gymkhana giving our young horse riders an opportunity to show us their skills
A special addition to the show this year was Vicki Kane’s posters of the Shows history throughout the years. We need to always remember our history, this work gave us a quick snapshot. We were also treated by Jan Paton on the 30-year anniversary of her year 2/3 classes Victorian state championship win in the Math’s talent quest. These posters had a few younger but familiar faces involved. We thank Vicki and Jan for their time and effort as the posters were well viewed and enjoyed
Our pavilion is extremely well supported by the community and the schools, and we thank all the people who take their time to make the room full of the “best of our community” in cooking, crafts, photos, flowers, vegetables, Lego and of course beer, just to name a few. We appreciate all those helpers who set up and clean up. The committed effort by our judges and stewards who love the Friday judging and the great social morning it is.
Overall, hours of work went into our show. I think as long as we continue to listen and be willing to change if needed, we will continue to provide an affordable show day enjoyed by all.
Our sponsors and the efforts by selling weekly raffles at the Bottom Pub enable our committee to provide many free attractions. Thank-you to our sponsors.
We also looked pretty smick in our Corryong Show shirts which were provided through a sun smart grant. And I think we can finally say with the completion of the 4-bay storage shed puts a full stop on the hours and hours certain members have toiled away working on grants and all that goes with them. And the shed looks great
We were also honoured to present two life memberships to extremely deserving members.
Austin Nicholas has been involved in the show for over 50 years at some level and is currently Chief steward of the pavilion and a valued committee member.
Serena Klippel is and has been the heartbeat of our show for a number of years and got us through the tough years when our 114-year history might not have made it. She has also contributed heavily as a committee member for over 20 years and also served as President and currently our Vice. An unimaginable number of hours have been dedicated to the show.
We thank you both.
Our monthly meetings are well supported. We have a rather young and enthusiastic committee, and we are pleased with the direction the show is heading. We need to keep enjoying the time we spend together and involving whoever wants to lend us a minute or ten, as any help doesn’t go unnoticed. For all the helpers who assist in some way either in the set up or the pack-up we couldn’t do it without you. The executive committee do a ton of work for a one-day event and I thank you all for the dedication. I personally want to thank Emma Klippel on behalf of all of us. She does an amazing job running all of us!!
This year we welcomed 3 show babies Jed, Hugo and little Percy. We hope that in years to come they all work and enjoy the Corryong Show just like their parents have.
Thanks to everyone for all the hard work, we provided our community a great show day and I look forward to seeing what next years show brings!
-Evan Nicholas, President.
